Today is Friday the 13th, superstitiously thought of as one of the most unlucky days of the year.
Friday the 13th is also the name of a famous horror film franchise. The iconic films have perpetuated this sense of superstition over the last half century. On January 13, 2012 (yes it was a Friday), La-La Land Records released a limited edition 6-CD boxset containing music scores from the first six films of the franchise. The sets all sold out in less than 24 hours. While Friday the 13th did not win any awards for it's low budget musical score, it struck a chord with dedicated fans. It also set the tone of how music should be used and scary sounds that influenced later horror films.
Friday the 13th seems to be particularly ominous this year. After all it is occurring in the same month as Halloween. To add to the superstition, today there's been extensive news coverage on the coincidental last ever Flight 666 for HEL. Good luck to everyone who's on that plane!
